If you want to learn to play the game of Field Hockey or you already play and you want a chance to develop your skills then this is the camp for you. Four days of intensive coaching on the “Turf” field at West Ridge Middle School with international hockey coaches many of whom coach in the USAFH Futures program and all of whom have extensive playing experience at NCAA Div 1 or senior International level both men’s and women’s.
If you are new to the game then the importance of the surface you learn on is a key factor to appreciate. This fast exciting sport has grown worldwide with the advent of smooth Turf fields and the development of specialist skills unique to the surface has meant that it is vital that early skills are developed on the correct (non-grass) surface. Whether your child is in Elementary or starting hockey in Middle School or just wants to try a new sport our beginners program which is built around US Field Hockey’s FUNdamentals program will quickly have them playing and loving the game. At the beginners level the focus is on FUN and is open to both boys and girls ages 7 – 14. Field Hockey sticks will be available to borrow for beginners.
For more advanced players (ages 12 – 18) the four day course will cover advanced skills and follow many of the techniques taught through the US Futures program. Reverse shooting, advanced dribbling skills, specialist tricks to beat defenders and conversely good defensive tactics to force the hand of unsuspecting attackers are some of the areas to be covered during the 12 hours of intensive instruction.
The program is led by head coach Ali Murdoch who played 15 years in the Irish Men’s National League and has coached with the US Futures Program and at the US Nationals. Each day will include focused skills training and scrimmages in skill appropriate groups.
the Camp Price is $150. Price includes a Camp T-Shirt and String Bag.
