Lone Star Field Hockey’s Fall Program is available to U10, U12, U14, U16 and U19 girls and boys. It caters to both beginners and to those who desire ongoing skills training to complement their school field hockey season.
Most importantly we will be working on synthetic surface skills (on Turf) as this is the cornerstone of the modern game. AstroTurf has made the game much faster and more skills-based and historically Austin players have been at a disadvantage when playing against school teams further afield because of lack of access to this playing surface.
Practice drills will be organized based on skill / age level e.g. for the younger ages and beginner players we will focus on the more basic skills, like the basics of passing and shooting the ball, for the older or more experienced players we will work on more advanced skills like reverse shots, reverse sweeping, aerial passes, jab tackling etc.
The Skills and Drills we will focus on are :
- Ball Control and Dribbling Skills
- Passing, Shooting and Attacking
- Offense and Defense Drills and Tactics
- Peripheral Vision and working in triangles
The 2016 Fall Program runs from August 28th to November 6th with weekly training sessions taking place on Sundays from 9.30am – 11.30am, ensuring there is no conflict with school practices and games. The cost of the Fall Program is $195. (And $225 if you register after August 14).
In Fall 2016, we will participate in a Recreational League for grades 5 – 8, with games played against the two middle school teams in Austin (St. Stephen’s and St. Andrews). Kids who do not attend these schools will be able to play on a club team and participate in 4 – 6 local games over the 11 week season. Dates and times for these games will be finalized in August/September. There will be a small additional charge to participate in these games to cover Field Rental and Umpires.
Lastly, we will offer the opportunity for Tournament Play for those interested. Lone Star plans to participate in the Texas Pride Columbus Day Tournament and also plans to host a Tournament in Austin on November 6th. Similar to the Rec League, there will be a small additional charge to participate in tournaments.
