Isa Van Maren

I’m Isa and I was an exchange student from the Netherlands from August 2018 until June 2019. I spent my exchange year in the Dallas area, where I got to play with Lone Star Field Hockey Club. Before I came to the US, I wasn’t sure if I could play field hockey anyway, so when I found out I could play with Lone star, I was really happy. We had practice almost every Saturday and I really enjoyed it.

Yes, there are kids in your age group that are just starting to play field hockey, but most of my teammates were experienced players. I got lucky that I could play with some kids that were really good and I could learn from them. I think that Lone Star has good trainers and coaches that have taught me a lot.

In this year I got to participate in two tournaments, which I really enjoyed. The first one was in Florida, West Palm Beach. Few weeks before the tournament we had a bootcamp training in Austin. I really enjoyed the practices. At the tournament I had so much fun with our team, and also because we got to play against some good teams.

The second tournament was the Regional Club Championships in St. Louis, and with this tournament I got the chance to play against some teams on the highest level in the US. Before I decided to go to the US, I wasn’t sure if I wanted to go. I had a couple reasons why I would not go and one of them was field hockey. I would miss a year of field hockey in the Netherlands, so I thought my field hockey skills would get worse. But because I played with Lone Star, this was certainly not the case, I even think that in some aspects I became better. If you have the chance to play at Lone Star, I would definitely advise you to do that. For me it was an amazing experience that I will never forget.

Leonie Weber

Hello everybody!
My name is Leonie Weber and I‘m 18 years old.
I was recently spending 3 months of my gap year in Round Rock, Texas, as an Au- Pair.
Normally I live in Germany and my hometown is called Krefeld which is nearby Düsseldorf, for everyone who is interessed.
In Germany I play fieldhockey since I‘m four years old so I didn‘t wanted to give up on my passion during my stay in Texas and that was the reason why I joined the Lone Star Field Hockey Club in Austin.
When I started my First practice I was a bit unsure about how the girls will include me but after one second of being there my whole insecurity was gone.
Everyone, coaches and players, was treating me like they literally know me forever and everyone was so kind and willing to help and include me in the team!
Furthermore, I had the chance to play two real tournaments with the team. The First tournament we participated was in Pennsylvania. It was an indoor tournament because it was still freezing in Pennsylvania and we were staying over the weekend in spooky nook, which is like the home of Field Hockey in America. That was impressive!
We wone this tournament with our U19 team which was a great success for all of us.
The second tournament is just a few weeks ago and was in St.Louis. I was already back in Germany but flew back to play there cause they participated in the regional club championships for the first time. It was so much fun playing there because the level of playing was even higher which was pretty fun to get to know in a foreign country.
So if you are in Texas right now and you are interested in playing Field Hockey during your time there ( and it doesn‘t care how long you are staying ) go and join them!!
You can easily contact them thru this homepage and you will get all the information you need.

Have a good time!!

Best wishes,

Leonie

Hallo!

Leonie
