July 2015, Austin TX – We are very excited to announce the creation of Lone Star Field Hockey, a new and exciting club focused on developing field hockey skills for girls (and maybe even boys in the future) from Austin and San Antonio. We think it’s crazy that the second most widespread played sport in the world has no club here at the state capital and thanks to the support of Xan Funk at St Stephens school we are ready to offer girls ranging from age 7 to 18 years old advanced skills development and more importantly access to Turf practices.
Headed up by Ali Murdoch, a former National league player in Europe with Emily Beach, a two time NCAA winner (as a player and coach) we believe we have the foundation to build a really successful club here in the rolling hills and we are starting with a 12 week program that has midweek practice on the grass (uck!) at St Stephens and Sunday afternoon practices on Turf at Northwest Soccer club (Yeah!).
So whether you are already playing in school or have never lifted a field hockey stick before it doesn’t matter we will cater for one and all with a focus on the the two F’s – Fun and Fundamentals and as we build upon our first season we will introduce competitive games and even travel events.
For our first season we have kept registration costs to the very low fee of just $175 and that covers over 20 practice sessions. You can register here online at this website but spaces are limited due to Turf access restrictions. The only other requirement is that you must also register your daughter wiih US Field Hockey (this is for insurance purposes – and please be sure to select Lone Star FHC as your club) – here is the link to Join US Field Hockey. If you already have USAFH membership and are affiliated with another Club that is fine.
Soooo sharpen your sticks and get ready for the inaugural season with practice beginning on the Turf at Northwest Soccer Club on Sunday 6th Sept from 2pm-4pm.
